Looking for something to do? Recreation in Savanna is one of the biggest and best draws. Savanna notes golf courses, marinas, a bike path, and a US FWS Nature Center. There is plenty of bank fishing available if you're looking for a quiet spot on a lazy afternoon. The Palisades State Park lies just north of Savanna along the Mississippi River with miles of walking trails for all levels of hikers, as well as picnic areas and campgrounds. There are downtown businesses with weekend music, a movie theatre, and an old traincar for the lovers of a bygone era. We have several city parks with a variety of playground equipment, ball diamonds, volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts, and walking paths. The view from Marquette Park on the Mississippi is not to be missed, and is a great place for an afternoon or early evening picnic. There are numerous fishing tournaments throughout the summer and fall months. See the Savanna Chamber website for "50 Nifty Things" to see and do in Savanna and the surrounding area. You can print the brochure from their website.

Great River Bike Trail
The Great River Trail extends 62 miles from the Quad Cities to Savanna, Illinois. Eleven communities and 3 counties are evenly spaced along the 62 mile recreational path. Each city and village offers an invitation to pause for a moment on the route to explore the remarkable diversity each community represents. The Great River Trail is partner of the Grand Illinois Trail, a 500 mile loop trail around Northern Illinois from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River.
Mississippi Palisades State Park
The Native American pathfinders along the rock palisades of the Mississippi River did as present-day hikers do - in coursing the bluffs, they took the paths of least resistance. The trails at the Mississippi Palisades, especially the park’s southern routes, puts you in touch with the past. Walk them and you’ll trace the footsteps of all those who came before you, some of whom came this way nearly a thousand years ago.
